The Madison River (YNP) Winter Fly Box is hand-curated specifically for the conditions, hatches, and trout behavior you'll encounter on the year-round section of the Madison from the Wyoming-Montana border to the park boundary near West Yellowstone. This is now one of only two locations in Yellowstone with year-round fishing access, and the winter midge fishing can be exceptional.
This box is built around the park Madison's winter hatch calendar — midges in sizes 18–22 with occasional BWO activity on mild afternoons. Every fly was chosen with technical midge nymphing under an indicator in the slower pools in mind, giving you exactly what you need to match what the fish are eating at this time of year.
What's in the box:
36 flies total — 18 unique patterns, 2 of each — covering Zebra Midges, Disco Midges, Midge Clusters, BWO emergers, RS2s, and Pheasant Tail nymphs. No filler. No patterns that don't belong on this river in this season.
Pro tip from the water: Winter crowds on the park Madison are essentially zero. Use the lightest tippet you can manage and you may have miles of world-class trout water entirely to yourself.
