The Yellowstone River Winter Fly Box is hand-curated specifically for the conditions, hatches, and trout behavior you'll encounter on the Yellowstone from December through March. The Yellowstone fishes in winter, particularly in the stretches below Livingston. Midges and small nymphs produce in the slower runs, and the fish are concentrated and catchable.

This box is built around the Yellowstone's winter hatch calendar — midges and occasional BWOs. Every fly was chosen with tight-line nymphing and midge fishing in mind, giving you exactly what you need to match what the fish are eating at this time of year.

What's in the box:

36 flies total — 18 unique patterns, 2 of each — covering midge larvae, zebra midges, small nymphs, and soft hackles. No filler. No patterns that don't belong on this river in this season.

Pro tip from the water: Fish the long, slow tailouts below riffles in winter. Trout stack in these areas to feed on midges drifting through the current seams.
