Starter Kit - Small Water Creekin'
SAVE WHEN YOU BUY A STARTER PACK!
The ideal set up for those smaller water adventures. Whether you are looking for a bigger fight on your regular rivers or looking to chase fish on smaller water/creeks, you generally are going to be fishing with "lighter" tackle. We aptly nicknamed this starter pack the "Creekin' Pack." Plus, save more money when you buy it all in a package like this!
Rod:
The base of this pack lays in our ever popular 8' 6" 4wt 406 rod. A medium fast action rod that provides the perfect balance between touch and power. Our matte finish and titanium finished snake guides really set this rod apart from anything you will find at this price point. Our direct to consumer sales model gives you the quality you would normally be paying 2x+ for.
Reel:
As for reels we provide the following options with this package:
- Patriot reel - a fully CNC'd, fully sealed drag, highly adjustable drag
- Midnight reel - a fully CNC'd, highly adjustable drag that is not fully sealed
The main difference between these two reels is the concealment of the drag system. The easiest way to decipher which is best for you is to how you will care for your gear. If you are one that tends to set the reel end down on the bank while you are wading to change out your flies or lay the boat down in back of the boat, the fully sealed will be your best option. This concealment essentially prevents any debris or water from getting in to the drag system thus reducing the amount of cleaning/lubricating that is recommended compared to a non fully sealed drag. If price is the primary driver and you take care of your gear, then the fully sealed would not be necessary for your needs.
Be sure to select the correct handing for your reel with this basic walkthrough found here.
Fly Line:
All rod packages come pre-packed with our industry standard 20lb blue backing along with our weight-forward blue/gray fly line. This weight forward aspect complements the action of our rod greatly allowing you to chuck your line with ease.
Leaders:
Included with this package are two 5 packs of 9' tapered leaders in 4x and 5x sizes. Generally speaking, fishing a lighter rod usually means you are chasing spookier fish and you are going to need the thinner more "invisible" benefit of these sizes. These tend to be our go to for small dry flies and smaller double nymph rigs. If you anticipate throwing bigger bugs at some point - hoppers in mid summer for example - you likely will want to add some 2x or 3x leaders to your cart!
Tippet:
The final piece to the puzzle is the tippet. We included a pack of 3x-6x fluorocarbon tippet to this package as it will cover the vast majority of your needs with the 4wt rod. The added "invisibility" of fluorocarbon on the water makes this the perfect product to tie off your secondary fry fly or dropper nymph!
Net:
Add one of our highly sold aluminum FlyWorks Nets to your starter pack to round out the full set up. Pick from our blue, green, or gunmetal option all with a magnetic net release included. This is the perfect set up for your wading needs. If a more traditional wooden net is more fitting to your style that is additionally available with the Burled Wood option.
Fly Box:
With this start package, we included our waterproof double-sided fly box. You are going to need it, and the two sides leave ample room for your impending fly collection.
